Tamika & Friends is proud to serve as the lead U.S. partner in the Pearl of Wisdom Campaign™ to Prevent Cervical Cancer ( The campaign is a united, global effort that raises awareness of the new tools available for preventing cervical cancer, encourages women to take full advantage of these tools, and advocates for the implement of these tools for girls and women everywhere. The campaign promotes the Pearl of Wisdom as the global symbol of cervical cancer prevention in order to increase public recognition of this issue in the same way that the pink ribbon serves the breast cancer campaign. In addition, all partners distribute simple, consistent key messages about cervical cancer prevention to ensure that our collective voices effectively reach women:

  • Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women worldwide. In the U.S., 11,070 women will have been diagnosed with cervical cancer and 3,870 will have died from it in 2008.
  • Cervical cancer can be prevented using the Pap test, the HPV test and the HPV vaccine.
  • Working together, we can make sure that girls and women everywhere have access to these life-saving tools.

The campaign was initiated in Europe by the European Cervical Cancer Association. The campaign was launched in the U.S. in January 2009 and now counts numerous leading women’s health and advocacy organizations as partners. More information is available at
