Girlfriend Retreats
Annually, women from across the nation are invited to attend a T&F, Inc. Girlfriends Retreat to learn more about cervical cancer
and its link to the human papillomavirus (HPV
). Each participant is asked to bring a “girlfriend” so that they are not in isolation. Our sole desire is to share information globally about how this 100% preventable cancer can be avoided.
In return for participation in this free, educational retreat about cervical cancer and HPV, participants are asked to go back to their communities armed with information to educate women about cervical cancer and its link to the human papillomavirus, by hosting T&F’s signature outreach program, the House Party of fiVe (HPV Party).

HPV Parties mix girl talk with interactive, educational lessons that help women become more comfortable discussing their sexual health. Hosts invite at least five of their friends over, and while chatting about love, relationships and playing risqué versions of party games, guests learn about situations that may put them at risk for contracting the HPV, as well as learn how to recognize the symptoms of the virus and cervical cancer. Not meant to be lectures, themes have ranged from poetry to karaoke, allowing each host the unique opportunity to choose a theme. At the end of each House Party of fiVe, hosts encourage guests to share what they have learned with family and friends. Many of these women pledge to visit their gynecologists for Pap tests and/or HPV screenings.
We project that participants will take control of their gynecological health and rally to encourage others to do the same. It is our hope to lower the number of cervical cancer deaths by educating the community in a very non-traditional way. Tamika & Friends, Inc. truly believe “when you want to share what you’re going through with people who understand. When you want to be part of a loving community. When you think you’re alone, we’re here.”
