Jessica
I was just 26 years old and the mother of two small children, 2 and 4 years old, when I received the news on September 29, 2008. While the news was horrific, it could have been worse. My cancer was not yet invasive and could be resolved with a hysterectomy
which was viewed as a major surgery
especially at such a young age. I had had 2 abnormal paps, a bad biopsy
and the final results came from a LEEP procedure I had in August of 2009. I had felt so confident that I only wanted two children and suddenly I was having a daily struggle over whether or not I wanted to have more before the choice was taken away from me permanently. I endured the most awful biopsies every 2 months while I battled the thought of having more babies until one day when my husband said to me, "Jess, do you want to have more babies and not know if you will be here to raise all of your children, or do you want to have a hysterectomy and know you will be here to raise the two we have?" That was what did it for me. That same day I scheduled my surgery for April 20th, 2009. Since then all has been good and I have never been more excited than I am now! I'm healthy, here for my babies, and embarking on a new journey to start my very own foundation aimed at raising awareness! I am dedicated to making sure my daughter and other little girls from her generation and future generations don't have to face the fear that I did!
Thank you Tamika for letting me share my story and I look forward to working with you!
